OUR STORY
As the world faces compounding challenges of climate change and societal misfits, now more than ever, the global community continues its collective efforts to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Sierra Leone- remains vulnerable to the threat of climate change and environmental devastation due to socio-economic and environmental factors caused by economic growth pressure and natural disasters.
The Ecovironment is a plastic recycling social enterprise founded in 2021. It is committed to environmental preservation, taking practical actions to promote plastic waste management, and advocating for the sustainable use of nature. Through its action-oriented practices, Ecovironment aims to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action) by recycling 1,000,000 tons of plastic waste by 2030 into our everyday goods like floor dilate, bricks, decorating tiles, plaque and flower pots together, bringing climate change education to households in Sierra Leone.
Since its establishment, Ecovironment has been committed to facilitating the transfer of rights to local communities. Various contextualised projects have been developed through its local-driven approach to achieve its mission. This includes promoting plastic waste management and addressing climate change and its impacts by building resilient communities through various initiatives and projects. Over three years of operation, more than 450 tons of plastic waste have been recycled. Ecovironment has also facilitated the implementation of participatory waste initiatives to empower local communities in 40 communities reaching over 100,000 people.
